Swimming is a sport where individuals or teams race through water by propelling themselves using various kinds of strokes and kicks. The four main strokes are: freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly, and backstroke (the only stroke where swimmers are on their backs). Most swimming competitions are held indoors, but some are held in open water bodies such as lakes. Most races are individual, but team relays are held sometimes. The lengths of the races differ, but the winner is always the individual with the fastest time.
