Luge is a sport where individuals or teams of two race down an ice-covered track using a metal sleigh. Competitors race while lying on their backs, with their feet first. The tracks are artificially designed to have large banked turns. The participants take turns racing through the course; the individual or team with the fastest combined time over all races wins. Competitions are often decided by as little as a fraction of a second, requiring winning individuals or teams to be mistake-free.
